Seasoned Journeys Malmesbury Accommodation

A Beautiful Break-Away at Barnard’s Barnyard

The ideal place for your next outdoor adventure.

Start

If we were to tell you that if you drove just a mere 40 minutes out of Cape Town, you will arrive at one of the best-kept secrets the Western Cape has to offer – would you believe us? Think cozy wooden cabins on a working farm, little animals roaming free and a fishing dam all to yourself.

Barnard’s Barnyard is a charming little holiday destination located on the outskirts of Cape Town, near a small town called Malmesbury. Although close to the city, once you arrive, it will quickly feel as though you are in the middle of the countryside. Before entering the gates to the Barnard’s Barnyard, you will have to travel along a gravel road past many farms on either side, rustic farmhouses and several horses grazing which is such a beautiful sight.

Established in January 2015, this holiday destination started with just one cottage called the ‘Guinea Fowl’. Six years on, it now boasts three cottages as well as a glamping tent, complete with its own outdoor shower. Each luxury cabin is equipped with a full kitchen and lounge area, bathroom with a shower, DSTV, indoor fireplace, outdoor braai, fire pit and wait for it – an outdoor KOLKOL hot tub, which is just perfect for those cold days.

Away from the crowds and hustle and bustle, guests staying at Barnard’s Barnyard are given the opportunity to create their own adventures. Not only does it offer a tranquil environment with breathtaking views, but it gives guests the opportunity to be one with nature and the freedom to explore. Guests can choose to go zip lining, fish in the dam (catch and release), go for leisurely walks, interact with the animals, canoe on the dam, bird watch or simply light up the fire – the list of activities are endless.

While the cottages are on a fully self-catering basis, if you wish to get a bite to eat elsewhere, Malmesbury has quite a few divine coffee shops which are open daily. Philadelphia, another little town close by also boasts cafes, eateries and beautiful arts and crafts shops.

If you were wondering when it would be the best time of the year to book, the truth is – any time of the year is perfect. The cottages are adapted in such a way to give you the best out of both seasons, homey and warm in the winter months, but fresh and airy in the summer.

So, if you are looking for that perfect little place, best you get around to booking your spot.

The cottages are R1500 per night for 4 guests and R100 per extra person (max 6 per cottage). The Glamping tent is R1000 per night for 2 Guests. (Subject to change without notice)
